When is your colonoscopy?

Gregorian calendar. All times are Saudi Arabia time.

Gregorian date
One quick check

For example: diabetes or insulin, diabetes/weight-loss injections, blood thinners, kidney or heart disease, fluid restriction, pregnancy or breastfeeding, previous poor preparation, severe constipation, delayed stomach emptying, swallowing difficulty or bowel surgery.

Your answers are not sent or saved. Every time is shown in full; no calculations for you.

Follow your endoscopy and anaesthesia unit’s instructions if they differ from this timetable.

SEE HOW

Two sachets. One litre.
Here is how.

One large sachet A and one small sachet B into a measuring jug.
1Empty A + B

One large sachet A and one small sachet B into a measuring jug.

The final volume is 1 litre, including the powder.
2Fill to 1 litre

The final volume is 1 litre, including the powder.

Repeat with the remaining A + B for the second litre.
3Stir until dissolved

Repeat with the remaining A + B for the second litre.

Do not put all four sachets into one litre. [6]

You may chill the mixed solution. Keep it covered and use it within 24 hours. Your timetable shows when to start and finish. [6]

CHOOSE WITH CLARITY

What counts as a clear fluid?

From your last solid meal until your first dose: clear fluids only. Clear fluids remain allowed during preparation until your timetable’s final drinking cut-off.

Clear drinking water

✓ You can drink

  • Water
  • Tea without milk
  • Black coffee without milk
  • Clear, strained broth without pieces
  • Clear apple juice without pulp
  • Transparent drinks, not red or purple
  • Oral rehydration solution if your team allows it
Drinks to avoid

✕ Do not have

  • Milk or yoghurt drinks
  • Juice with pulp
  • Smoothies
  • Soup with pieces
  • Any solid food
  • Red or purple drinks

Clear fluids are not water alone. Choose within your dietary restrictions; a prescribed fluid restriction needs an individual plan. [6] [11]

KNOW WHAT TO EXPECT

The test, simply explained.

A flexible camera passes through the anus to examine the rectum and colon. The doctor may take a sample or remove a polyp when needed. [2]

1

Before the test

Bring your appointment letter and medicine list. Your team explains consent and sedation. Arrange an escort if sedation is planned. [2] [5]

2

At the unit

The team checks your preparation and answers questions. You may feel bloating or cramps; tell them if you are in pain. [2] [5]

3

After the test

Wait until you are cleared to leave. Take your eating, medicine and follow-up instructions. Follow the unit’s driving restrictions after sedation. [2] [5]

More about the test

Uncommon risks include bleeding or a bowel perforation. Biopsy results may take longer. Severe or increasing pain, heavy bleeding or fever after the test need urgent medical assessment. [2] [5]

WHEN YOU NEED HELP

Do not change doses yourself.

Expect frequent watery bowel movements and stay near a toilet. If you cannot finish the solution, or stool stays brown or contains pieces, contact the unit. Do not add another cleanser or make up a dose yourself. [6] [11]

Stop preparation and get help

Severe or sudden pain, bleeding, repeated vomiting that prevents drinking or marked dizziness: seek urgent medical advice. If there is no bowel movement within 6 hours of starting Moviprep, stop it and contact a doctor. [6]

Breathing difficulty, facial swelling, fainting or chest pain with vomiting: seek emergency care.

Medicines and conditions that need a different plan

Do not automatically stop diabetes medicines, insulin, GLP-1 medicines or blood thinners. Oral medicine absorption can be reduced; the leaflet separates them by one hour before, throughout and one hour after Moviprep. Ask your team to arrange essential medicines. [6] [14]

Do not use Moviprep with conditions such as bowel obstruction or perforation, ileus, a stomach-emptying disorder, toxic megacolon, G6PD deficiency, phenylketonuria or allergy to its ingredients. Active inflammatory bowel disease, dehydration, heart or kidney disease and swallowing difficulty need a plan review. [6] [7]

My unit gave me different instructions

If your unit gave you different written times, follow that individual plan. Do not combine it with the calculated timetable.

Sources and how this guide was prepared

Sources and the SADA protocol were reviewed on 4 October 2026. A 24-hour solid-food stop and three low-fibre days are this protocol’s choices. References do not imply endorsement by those organisations; the patient’s unit and anaesthesia instructions take precedence. [12]
